StrongHER TogetHER - Durham Girls Book Club

UPDATE:  First a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to our efforts to raise funds for books!  To this point we have given over 300 girls in Durham our June and July books and the girls are reading and discussing the book amongst themselves.  It's very cool to see the interactions between girls who are spread far and wide!  The support from volunteers at the food distribution sites, from counselors, teachers, parents, authors and YOU has left us gobsmacked.  As we head into the heart of summer, we're now working hard to order as many books as we can for August.  So we are upping our ask in the hopes we'll be able broaden our reach, based on growing interest in the project.  Our August book (The Skin I'm In by Sharon Flake) costs $5.29 each (bulk price), so every dollar counts!!  Thank you for supporting us, friends.  You are giving us the wings we need to bring Durham girls to the nest.  Thru BOOKS!  Hope your summer is amazing!  (https://www.stronghertogether.org/bookclub )


With the COVID-19 pandemic and recent school closures, Durham girls are stuck at home...isolated, often bored and in search of some positive, fun outlets.  StrongHER TogetHER is a nonprofit that believes connected girls are stronger girls. So we’re excited to announce...

The DURHAM GIRLS Book Club
Reading books. Staying home. Going places. TogetHER. 

Our Book Club will bring together 500 girls in grades 5-8 from 25 schools across Durham.  In June, July and August, we'll be reading, then discussing a book per month over Instagram.  Each book will feature  a strong female character who inspires us!  The Durham Girls Book Club will be a safe space for girls to connect, learn together and form positive friendships with peers throughout Durham.

In June, we’ll begin distributing books and informational flyers to interested girls at our partner schools and associated food distribution sites across Durham. Our aim is to enable participation from girls throughout our community who love the notion of reading a book alongside other girls their age and sharing that experience... regardless of background, resources or zip code.

But we need YOUR help to make this happen! Our aim is to provide enough books (used, discounted, etc.) for 500 girls.  That means we’ll need to raise $6,000!  Please share our campaign with your networks on today’s #GivingTuesdayNow!!  And help us embrace a silver lining of this moment we're in...by connecting Durham girls through the power of books!
