Pickleball is on the rise in Durham! DAPP is our newly-organized not-for-profit club that has been formed to promote local pickleball playing opportunities.
Sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to our recent fundraising campaign! We used those funds to purchase 4 replacement nets which are now being used at Bethesda. With the leftover funds we are reviewing the possibility of other improvements such as:
· Renting the Bethesda courts exclusively for pickleball open play one extra night per week;
· Paying to light these courts during the day on dark, cloudy days;
· Adding fence screening to cut down on wind and wind-blown moisture as well as providing a better background behind courts to improve visibility.
We also are working with Durham Parks and Recreation on plans for conversion of the courts at Piney Wood to FULL TIME pickleball play. This will be a HUGE improvement in outdoor pickleball facilities here in Durham. Any remaining funds will be directed towards improvements at this location. Look for this facility to be up and running later this year. Stay tuned for more news on this venue as the year progresses.
