Janet entered the hospital on August 21st in liver failure. She had been sick for some time, but terrified of going to the hospital because of COVID. Finally after two months of waiting, Dad decided to just take her to Mayo so that she would have the very best of care and because they were one of the only medical establishments allowing any visitors. Mom was very scared to be alone as she was very sick and not used to being away from dad.
Because of her rapidly deteriorating condition they accepted her into the hospital despite not having the appropriate insurance coverage but we didn’t care because we knew she needed the best care possible.
For two weeks the doctors of every speciality exhausted any and all possibilities and on Thursday we made the decision she had enough pokes and prods and she was able to return home to us where she spent her last hours surrounded by so much love, compassion, and with dignity.
She passed peacefully at 3:30am on Friday September 4, 2020 surrounded by her husband and children.
Due to the extensive medical tests, procedures, medications, ICU, etc, there is significant medical costs that need to be paid and we want to make good on as much as humanly possible because they gave everything to save her life and they did so with compassion and respect giving her dignity through the entire process. We don’t know the total bill yet, but they asked for a $10,000 deposit to start.
