We need your help to Save Our Skyline
Fred Olsen’s plan for an Energy Park above Duns will be examined in a Public Inquiry this January. The site faces south and east toward the Merse, Polwarth, Marchmont, and Duns, and will be visible from Berwick, The Cheviot, Yeavering Bell, parts of the A697 and A1, and much of Duns itself—especially the west side. Solar panels would cover an area equal to about 100 football pitches and a Battery Storage unit is also proposed. Approaches from Westruther or Longformacus will see the skyline and foreground dominated by the project, shifting the area’s rural character to an industrial one. The proposal is located above a major high pressure gas pipeline.
Most work is being carried out by volunteers but to present a professional case for refusal at the upcoming Public Inquiry we will be engaging a landscape expert and a safety expert at a total cost of around £8,000—well below typical wind farm opposition costs.
While not against green energy, we believe this site is wholly unsuitable, a view shared by Scottish Borders Council in their objection.
We would be grateful for contributions to the cause and are accepting donations through this site. Donations can be made anonymously if you prefer.NB: You may not be a regular user of GoFundMe. Do not be put off by recommended tip. This can easily be changed BUT its not obvious how. After you have input your donation value, under the green line, there is a line that says 'enter custom tip' if you click on that you can change the tip to any figure.
(The visualisation above is from the application and if approved would be the view from the Duns to Longformacus Road, but note they are so close we couldn't get all 6 turbines in this picture)
