Dunkin’ on this Cancer

Sometimes bad things happen in life that seem so unfair. It’s hard to understand why some people seem to have more obstacles and heartbreak than others. If you know Devon Dunkin, you’ve probably found yourself wondering this before.

Twelve years ago, Devon fought for her life after enduring a near fatal car accident. Doctors told her that she may never walk again. But after numerous surgeries and countless procedures; and endless hours of

Physical Therapy, the athlete in Devon took the challenge and against all odds rose up out of that wheelchair and took her ‘first’ steps. She lives with PTSD; the scars and pain serve as reminders daily, but she continues to push through and strives to be the best she can possibly be. Her will power, perseverance and hard work through it all has been empowering to watch. At the young age of 35, she has experienced enough hardships for 10 life times.

But the story isn’t over and a new chapter has begun…

May 4, 2021 will now serve as another life altering stage. Her doctor suspected and a biopsy confirmed, Devon has been diagnosed with Stage ll-lll Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Breast Cancer.

There is now life before cancer and life after cancer. This type of Breast Cancer is highly invasive in that it grows and spreads rapidly. Thanks to Devon’s amazing Oncology Team, her treatment plan includes undergoing the most aggressive chemotherapy regimen available in order to give her the most promising outcome.

We know her charm and humor will get her through this – and she will somehow keep us laughing as she always does…

But she’s also going to need all of our help like never before.

Treatment:May 13, 2021 is Devon’s surgery to implant the port into her chest that willallow chemotherapy treatments to start immediately.  This means that over the next year, she will undergo 5 rigorous months of chemotherapy, followed by adouble mastectomy, radiation again, andthen reconstructive surgery.

As we all know, life still goes on and the
bills for cancer and its treatments can
astronomical, and not surprisingly, all
medications and procedures aren’t
covered by insurance - putting her family
under overwhelming financial pressure at a time when they will need to continue to
remain positively focused on Devon’s
recovery.

No matter what she is going through,
Devon always takes the time and effort to help others.

Now is the time for us to help Devon.

I truly cannot even imagine the stress, the anxiety and the fear that her family is going through.

The battle has just begun.

If you know Devon, you know she is one of the most resilient, strongest people you
will ever meet.

We KNOW Devon will beat this.

We KNOW that her friends and family will rally around her and be the best support
system she could hope for

With her wife, Ashlee and their three
young children by her side, I know she will
look forward to the next time that they will be able to play ball in the back yard again.

Any donation is more than appreciated and will go a long way in helping offset the
medical cost and basic needs for Devon,
Ashlee, their 3  children and Harlow (Their fur baby).

Please keep her and her family in your
thoughts and prayers.
