About 2 yrs ago Duncan started having issues with his foot, it started as drop foot and slowly progressed up his leg to his hips and to his left leg. After jumping through insurance hoops they were finally approved for an MRI the middle of last year. They were sent to a neurologist and months later finally got the diagnosis of MS. His PPMS has progressed rapidly and unfortunately he’s declined rapidly as well. He went from walking with a cane to being walker bound, and finally not being able to walk at all. He started having swelling in his feet and legs and Savannah took him to AGH Monday(2/28) morning. By Monday evening they were on the road to Albuquerque where his specialists are. He’s since been diagnosed with an infection and his kidneys are failing. New MRI’s have been done and what began as 3 lesions on his brain have multiplied and spread to his spine which is causing the immobility. They’re looking at a very aggressive treatment plan including a form of dialysis, steroids and new medication to help decrease the MS symptoms. They’re looking at a quite lengthy stay at UNMH and a rehab facility after that. He hasn’t been able to work throughout this and Savannah hasn’t either as she’s his care giver. They’ve got 4 kids, from 16 to 7. The 3 older kids are able to spend more time with their other parents throughout this but Z, the youngest is homeschooling and able to help his mom and support his dad. All the kids are worried and scared and praying and could use your prayers as well. Savannah, is staying strong and will be with Duncan until they can come home. Of course all of this has put a strain on the family including being expensive. As their friends, family and community it’s our time to rally around them and show them our support. Any help, prayers or support are appreciated and we’ll be updating this as more info is available.
