Dear Friends and Family,
This past weekend, Drexel University Men's Club Soccer had the privilege of representing our school at the NIRSA Regional Championships, a tournament that draws the 24 strongest teams from Region I, spanning from Maine to West Virginia. We placed first in our group including a scoreless draw against the University of Connecticut and wins against Carnegie Mellon (3-0) and West Chester University (1-0). We met the University of Massachusetts in the first knockout match and secured another 1-0 victory. Finally, we met the reigning Regional champions, Boston College, in our last game of the tournament. After a 0-0 final score after regulation, we earned the distinction of being the only team in the tournament that did not concede a goal. The game went straight to penalty kicks, where we secured our spot at Nationals with a perfect 5-4 win.
We are pleased to announce that we will be attending our first ever NIRSA National Soccer Championships in Round Rock, Texas from November 21st-23rd. This was the fourth time the Club qualified for the regional tournament since it was founded in 2007, and the first time we have qualified for Nationals. The NIRSA National Soccer Championships is the top stage for college club soccer, the chance of a lifetime for many, and a dream come true for DUMCS.
We typically put our club’s monetary allocation from Drexel towards referees, uniforms, and equipment. However, increasing referee and field costs, as well as a nearly 40% budget cut for all Drexel club sports teams has put us in a difficult financial situation. We strive to provide our players with incredible experiences at the lowest possible costs, and our annual dues are a fraction of comparable club soccer teams at other schools. However, we need your help for the National Tournament. We are looking to be able to take as many players as we can, but with significant travel and registration costs we may be forced to make difficult decisions. We want to provide this incredible opportunity to all of our players.
Drexel University Men's Club Soccer is a student-run organization with players from all across the world. The beautiful game has given us all incredible friendship and experiences that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Anything you can provide will go a long way in our pursuit of the National title in Round Rock.
