Duke's Second Chance: Surgery Fundraiser

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

We’re reaching out today with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits to share the story of our beloved dog, Duke, and the challenging journey he’s currently facing. Duke is more than just a pet to us—he’s a cherished member of our family, a source of endless love, and a reminder of resilience and second chances.

Duke’s story began in 2020, when he was rescued as a tiny puppy. Found on the side of a highway in Alabama, abandoned in a cardboard box with his siblings, Duke was given a second chance at life through A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue in Royal Palm Beach, FL. From the moment he joined our family, he brought boundless joy, laughter, and love into our home during a time when the world needed it most.

Now, Duke needs his own second chance. He has suffered tears in both of his ACLs, a painful injury that has robbed him of his usual playful, happy self. The only way to restore Duke’s mobility and alleviate his pain is through two TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgeries—one for each leg. These surgeries are vital to his recovery, but they come with an overwhelming financial burden.

The first surgery, to repair his left ACL, was completed on December 20th. While Duke is recovering well, the second surgery for his right ACL will be needed in 4–6 months once he has healed. On top of the surgical costs, there are also follow-up appointments, medications, and physical therapy to ensure a full recovery.

This isn’t the first time we’ve faced this challenge. Our other dog, Blaze, underwent ACL surgery a few months ago. Large-breed dogs like Duke are especially prone to this type of injury, and while we’ve done our best to prepare for unforeseen expenses, the cost of two back-to-back surgeries has stretched us beyond our limits.
