Hi, My name is Michelle Mohorc, I am Rachel Thies sister. I am here today asking for your help with the expenses of her dog Dukes medical treatment. Duke is a 4 y/o German Shepard, who my sister has had since he was a puppy. He has high grade/grade III mast cell tumor (MCT). The cancer is isolated to his leg and they are confident that his odds are very good, since it has not spread to other parts of his body. This past week he underwent surgery x2 and were unable to get good margins and were unable to remove the whole tumor. The plan is to do electrochemotherapy.
From the vets note; “Electrochemotherapy is a relatively safe procedure with minimal complications. The procedure takes approximately 7 minutes and costs ~$1500/treatment. Our recommendation is that Duke receive 2 treatments, two weeks apart.” He is also to receive systemic chemotherapy. Per the vet note; “While electrochemotherapy will only treat the remaining local disease at the scar, we also recommend systemic chemotherapy agent called vinblastine to kill any cancerous mast cells that could be lingering in the lymphatics and have not set up shop large enough for us to be able to detect. While the vinblastine may also treat the lingering cancer cells left at the scar, given the high grade of Duke's tumor, we recommend performing both simultaneously. The microscopic disease setting (like Duke is in) is the ideal setting for vinblastine chemotherapy. Cost for each dose of chemotherapy including the appointment, drug, administration and bloodwork is -$400. Restaging at week 5 is likely an additional $300-500, depending on the diagnostics and number of aspirates performed.”
With that being said, the total cost of treatment is around $6,000. We are asking for any help you can give, any little bit helps.
Duke is currently being seen by and will receive treatment from University of Missouri veterinary health center, in Colombia, MO.
Feel free to donate directly to my sister through Venmo @Racheltheis94.
We are currently trying to find out if it is possible for donations to be made directly to the vet for dukes care.
thank you.
