Duke the assistance dog
Donation protected
Duke the German shepherd and I are about to embark on a monumental journey and we need your help and would love you to come on this journey with us.
Duke and I are almost ready to begin our training with mindDog Australia (www.minddog.org.au) for Duke to be trained as a psychiatric assistance dog and we need your help to get there. mindDog will provide us with training and ongoing support throughout this process.
The training is rigorous and comes at a cost.
It costs up to $60,000 to train and place an assistance dog in Australia (Assistance Dogs Australia 2024) but with the help of mindDog this cost is heavily reduced thanks to volunteers and donations.
Your kind donation will help Duke become a certified psychiatric assistance dog that in turn will assist me and other mental health sufferers.
Your donation will be used to fund Dukes training and updates on how your donation has assisted us will be posted on social media.
A bit about me and more importantly Duke. I was a front line first responder in NSW for almost 15 years. In late 2021 I was diagnosed with PTSD as a result of my employment. I spent about 6 months away from the workplace to rehabilitate and get back to work which I did, however it wasn’t meant to be and I was medically retired in February 2024.
Duke is a German Shepherd Dog born in Richmond, NSW Australia on the 26th November 2023. He has a beautiful nature and just the right temperament to become a certified assistance dog.
It’s been a roller coaster ride for my family and I since being diagnosed with PTSD and medically retired from a job I loved. I was recently lucky enough to have Duke come into my life and his company has already changed my life for the better and it’s only up from here.
Recent events have put me under enormous mental, physical and financial strain and Duke and I will be forever grateful if you could spare a few dollars to help us on our journey.
