Powers Family- Help Brother Be Caregiver To Dad
Donation protected
Hello Everyone- My name is Shannon Powers.
It is most humbling especially during these times to ask for help but I love my family more than anything in the world, and I am so grateful that you are reading my request. Please know that it comes from my heart.
My father Duke (84) is the most precious being to me and my brother. He is a generous, kind, loving friend to all. You can't help but laugh when you are around him. Its infectious. My father has taken amazing care of himself walking 10 miles a day, eating well and being good to his body. He also stays well to care-give to our mother and his wife of 60 years who is end stage Dementia and Alzheimers. He is of sainthood.
Last Friday, July 17 he was in a horrific accident and he was t-boned. He was diagnosed with a C2 Fracture in his neck, but the scary part is that it severed his Vertabral Artery causing strokes. This is non repairable. He was in ICU and decided that the only way he would not be bedridden was to have life threatening surgery that could leave him paralyzed or possible death. We decided to go for it and while he is prone to stroke for the rest of his life- we have our father and I am eternally grateful.
He is now home resting and bedridden for now- and feeling a bit saddened as we had to re-home his beloved dog. We are so humbled by the outpouring of people who were

willing to care for his pup....
With this said- my amazing brother has stepped up to the plate to care for our dad for at least 2 months in Dallas leaving behind his wife in NYC to take care of bills that because of Covid have been a bit rough. My brother was furloughed from a job he adored, and because he is going to be caring for our dad who needs 24 hour monitoring... he is unable to look for or accept work back home at this time. It was a struggle for him as you can imagine ... work or care for our dad... and of course with the love we have for our dad.... he won.
I am asking humbly for your consideration when making the choice to donate to things that are important to you- especially in these most difficult times.
Please know that this donation will bring ease and relieve stress so that my brother can know that he and his wife can pay their rent while his huge heart takes care of our dad.
It is with gratitude and love that I thank you for your time.
Love,
Shannon
