Hello Everyone-
Our names are Wesley Brown & Kayla Alexander and this is a fundraiser for our son, Xavier Brown.
Xavier was supposed to be born in early August of 2021 - but like his mother and father, he had other plans and decided he wanted to meet everyone a bit sooner than anticipated. She gave birth to Xavier on 05/26 in the back of an ambulance in Cancún on her last day of what was supposed to be her birthday vacation. He was born approximately 10 weeks premature and due to his early arrival, has been in the NICU at Cancún General Hospital since birth. His organs were not fully developed and he was placed on a ventilator, breathing tube, UV light and warming bed to help maintain his body temperature. Because of the birthing environment, he also suffered from an infection of Sepsis (which has thankfully cleared up). His progress is slow but steady. Unfortunately, communications between us and his healthcare team have been extremely frustrating due to the language barrier.
The hospital does not have anyone there that speaks English enough to act as a translator and my Spanish is elementary at best (thanks to a couple classes in high school and college). The hospital staff refuses to use translation services (ie. Google Translate) unless she is on the verge of tears trying to understand what they are conveying. The social worker that's been assigned to my son doesn't speak nor understand English and refuses to use a translation service to assist in the communication process. Because of these barriers we are getting partial information regarding our son's health and treatment (only what I'm able to audibly understand). Currently, we are only allowed to see our son once a day for 30 minutes per the hospital's NICU visitation policy.
It's for these reasons, we'd like to bring Xavier home sooner rather than later. But to do this... we will need all the help we can get. We are trying to raise a total of $12,000 which would include hospital bills, extending our hotel stay for the next 2 to 3 weeks (depending on when his medical milestones are reached), daily transportation to and from the hospital and the air fare to get back home.
We would really appreciate any help that you can provide even if it's in prayer - because we need all the help we can get, whether it be financially and/or spiritually.
