Praised be Jesus Christ! My name is Amanda Sattler, I am 20 years old and I am from Maribel, WI. I started discerning religious life during my freshman year at Franciscan University of Steubenville, in October of 2013. At the time I was studying Communication Arts and Theology, and was really passionate about pursuing a career with Christian radio; which was an instrumental aspect of my continual conversion in high school. At the end of my freshman year, Christian radio was no longer where the Lord was asking me to give my life. During the week before finals I had been pondering the idea of filling out the paperwork to withdraw from next semester in order to seriously discern my vocation without acquiring more debt. I kept putting it off and making excuses as to why it would be “most prudent” to wait. However, every time I would pray in silence I was restless, and I knew it was because I was avoiding what God was asking me to do. That Sunday, I went to the library to write the final paper for my English class, and in the silence of that library the phrase that kept coming to me was a quote from Pope St John Paul II “Do not be afraid, cast out into the deep and drop your nets for a catch”.
On September 5th I am moving to LaCrosse to live at the Mater Redemptoris House of Formation run by the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George. This House provides an aspirancy program, which prepares young women and gives them the formation necessary to enter the religious community they are discerning with. I personally am looking at the Missionaries of the Word, a community established by Bishop David Ricken on May 1st, 2014 (Check out their website! ) Although I've visited other communities, it is a community that has had my heart since I first encountered them through Catholic Youth Expeditions in high school. In order to participate in the program, I must be debt free and also help cover the costs of living at the House of Formation. Therefore, I am fundraising to both participate in the aspirancy program and pay off student loans.
God is asking me to trust Him in a radical way and I’d be honored if you would be a part of my journey with Him.
