Hi, I’m fundraising for my dear friend Janeene whom I’ve known for 35+ years. She and hubby Harley have fallen on very hard times and every donation will help no matter how small. Thank you in advance. Here’s a little glimpse of their story…

This past year has been very difficult for Harley and Janeene. On November 2th, Harley will have been away from home for one year, with several emergency visits to the hospital, including the last one, Harborview in Seattle, in which he had 11 surgeries, day after day, to attempt to heal his wounds. At present, he is in a Skilled Nursing Facility. Janeene continued to work and although things were tight, they continued to get by.

Then last May, Janeene noticed two of her lab values were off. After mentioning it to her doctor, they repeated the test, which showed even worse results. After being referred to an Endocronologist, six nodules were discovered on her thyroid. After an ultrasound, several biopsies, a CT scan, Janeene was diagnosed with thyroid cancer with metastases to the lymph nodes on the right side of her neck. Still Janeene was working.

Then, on August 24th Janeene was let go for missing too many days of work due to her health issues. This was two days prior to her one year anniversary, when she would have qualified for two weeks vacation and FMLA. On top of that, she was denied unemployment benefits because when asked the question “Are you able to physically work”, Janeene had to answer no.

In December, Janeene has to have Radioactive Iodine therapy. Still, her endocrinologist will not allow her to return to work till all this has been completed and Janeene has recovered. This has left Harley and Janeene in dire straits. There is no money coming in at all for rent, bills, or groceries. While Janeene plans to get a job (she’s been offered several already) but it’s unclear if that will be in January or February.
