Ducati’s road to recovery
Donation protected
On the morning of Thursday January 26 Thea and Justus experienced something no pet owner wants to go through. Their two dogs escaped their yard and Ducati did not come back on his own. Thanks to social media and numerous people providing real-time updates, they were eventually able to track him down, Ducati had managed to make it outside of town. When Thea got to his location he was too terrified to even respond to her calling him. He got spooked and ran leaving them empty handed by the end of our search day Thursday night.
On Friday morning they confirmed with a witness that he was hit by a semi truck on hwy 1 around 11am Thursday Jan 26, but when a bystander tried to help him he ran away once again. The witness was not hopeful they would be recovering a living dog.
After tireously searching Friday morning Justus was able to locate their dog alive but visibly injured near the location of the accident. Unfortunately, there are no urgent care vet clinics in the area of Brooks, and after numerous calls they were directed 163km away to Lethbridge for further support.
He is now out of surgery. There are no visible fractures to any of his legs, but he is bruised, swollen, and scraped. He was found missing numerous teeth and some that were broken or near torn out. They were told 11 of the 42 teeth were removed (not sure if that includes the ones torn out during the accident). He was started on antibiotics for infection, and medication to keep him comfortable. He has fractures to the upper jaw, but they won't know right away if her requires further care or support.
They are now being faced with a very unexpected vet bill as well as the expenses of having to travel out of town to have Ducati treated.
They are hopeful for a positive recovery, and are open to all the positive vibes you can provide. Huge shout out to the amazing doctors and staff at Lethbridge Pet Hospital- cannot thank you enough❤️
