Reaching a Writing Workshop in Dublin

Donation protected
Hello, all!

Since I picked up my first Harry Potter book in third grade, I have nurtured an absolute love of reading, and with it has come a passion for writing. The idea of being able to create a whole entire world with nothing but a pen and paper (or, perhaps, a keyboard) is downright magical to me, and I threw myself into the art eagerly. Discovering how much I loved to write helped me to feel like I finally had something that was mine, a skill that I could be proud of. It was all that I wanted to do, and I took every writing class and joined every club I could find.

With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that, when I started college this past fall, I immediately pounced on the Creative Fiction class my school offered. I quickly developed a pleasant relationship with my professor, and more than once asked if he’d read a piece of mine and give me feedback outside of what I submitted for class discussions. I got to talking with him one day, and he told me that he hosted a Creative Writing Workshop in Dublin every year. In the workshop, college students from all across the country would be able to perfect a piece of their writing alongside published authors, while also getting to experience Dublin.

My professor told me that he thought I would love the workshop, and, admittedly, I was a little starstruck by the idea of being able to travel out of the country and get the chance to work with actual, real life authors all in one fell swoop. While I’m admittedly not much of a traveler, Ireland has always been on my list of dream destinations—I mean, how much more literary could a place get! I just imagine every street feeling like the setting of a mystery novel, or maybe a quaint coming-of-age book.

Unfortunately, I'm not in a place where I have a lot of loose spending money. Pretty much all of my money is going towards covering my tuition, and the costs of the trip are well outside of what I can manage. I am looking for extra work to try and supplement my funds for the trip, but in the mean time, I came to gofundme hoping for a little help. I set $1,800 as my goal amount to cover any fluctuation in plane ticket prices ($700-$1,000), since there is a wide range of costs, but that is a bit of a stretch goal and just getting to a $1,000 alone to cover the academic fee ($400) and accommodations ($560) would be immensely helpful.

I have to pay the academic and accommodations fees by March 1st, so I'd like to set that as a deadline, though I will leave this open until I actually purchase my plane tickets, just in case.

Thank all of you for your help!
