My brother, Duane, has been battling chronic, aggressive Crohns disease for 30 years, since the age of 11. During this time he's been in and out of hospitals, has had multiple procedures and surgeries, and has battled numerous splinter conditions and diseases (including melanoma and other skin cancers, Barrets esophagus, hiatial hernia, brittle bones, chronic malnutrition, abscesses, and more) stemming from the Crohns itself, as well as its treatment. He persevered to earn 2 degrees before having to forfeit his dream of helping children as a school counselor after a second bowel resection, and I have watched in awe as he repeatedly picked himself up after each awful blow dealt by the Crohns to carry on with love and grace. My brother is my hero.
That said, this year has been particularity brutal for Duane. He underwent another surgery requiring a lengthy hospital stay and a week later became septic. Hardly recovered from that, he has now been diagnosed with yet another intestinal blockage and is currently hospitalized 2 1/2 hours away from family and home. We have no idea what the doctors will decide or how long he will be there.
I don't ask lightly, but Duane needs help. Any contributions will be used towards medical bills and other bills that have accrued during his extended illness. If there is enough left over, I would like to have at least one family member stay with him, as well.
Thank you so much for anything you can do to help, not the least of which being your thoughts and prayers!
