Hi, my name is Kathy Hutchinson and this a journey that my son Jason Hutchinson is now on.  He did not plan on this journey that is now placed upon him. On Wednesday October 28, 2015 Jason stepped on a nail (something just about everyone has done or know someone who has). That is exactly what Jason thought. By Friday October 30, 2015 his foot was hurting so he went to the ER, they gave him an anibiotic and sent him home. By Sunday November 1, 2015 he was in a lot of pain. That night he was admitted to Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy Ohio.  On Tuesday November 3,  2015 Jason under went his first Surgery.  The Doctor went in and cleaned out the infection on the top and bottom of his right foot. He stayed until Thursday November 5, 2015.
I brought Jason to my house to take care of him. We had a home health nurse come out to teach Jason how to give himself anitbiotic's through his pic line( which is a double IV line that goes through his vien in his arm straight into his right ventrical of his heart.) The pic line was put in during his first surgery. During  the next five days he was never pain free.
On Tuesday November 10, 2015 Jason started running a fever of 104.5. So as soon as I got home from work I took him straight to the hospital. This time I took him to Miami Valley South (because it is a Premier Health Network, the same as Upper Valley Medical Center and closer to our home).  Jason was then rushed to Miami Valley down town dayton where he  was admitted. Over the next three days, Jason's fever raged from 103 to 104. Only after multiple doses of tylenol did his fever came down to about 101.6. He was the sickest I have ever seen him in his whole 34 years. Jason had an MRI on Wednesday November 11, 2015 at midnight. The MRI showed that almost every bone in his foot was seeded with the bacterial infection Pseudomonas, which is a very aggressive and dangerous bacteria.
So on Thursday November 12, 2015 at about 9:00pm he went into surgery for the second time.   The podietrist said that there was alot more infected  bone than he first thought.  He cut into the bone just for a biopsey and a good amount of the infection came out. The podietrist said they call that mothing meaning that part of the bone is dying. He made the original incesion larger on the top and bottom of his foot. He did not close up either the top or bottom of his foot. He did bandage it and put a wound vac on the incision to suck out more of the  infection.
On November 16th Jason had his third surgury this time they went in and did another clean out and during the clean out discovered that two of his main bones that connect his toes to the main joint was to far gone to save along with all the tissue in the top half of his foot had to be removed .
Jason was put on all the pain medications that was allowed without damaging his kidneys. For the next two days he endured unimaginable pain even with all those meds.
Finally on November 19th he was discharged with all the pain medication and with all the IV antibiotics to keep him as comfortable as possible. Also he was sent home with a wound vac on his foot which means they could not close his wounds, they have to naturally heal without stitches.  Jason has a IV pump connected to one line of his dual pick line that administers one of his 2 antibiotics every 8 hours and has to be connected 24/7 along with the wound vac 24/7.  He has to self administer another IV antibiotic every 24 hours. Also he has to self administer a shot of blood thinner with a three inch needle into his stomach every 24 hours.
Jason has 4 weeks of this daily routine with 2 of those days a week he has to return to the hospital to change his wound vac dressing which is so painful that he will be administered IV pain medication and monitered to try and make it as easy as possible for him.  Also he has a home health care nurse that comes out daily to do his vitals and blood work.
At the end of his 4 week ordeal it will be determined how much damage has been done to his foot or if the infection is still present and to see what has to be amputated.  His doctors have said they will try and save what they can but it could be 1/4 of his foot or all the way up to taking right below the knee.  Its a very small chance that nothing could be amputated but doctors have told him to be mentally prepared for amputation happening.
This sounds like a lot for one person to go through and endure daily, which it is and you can only imagine the toll it takes on him physically and mentally daily, but some how still seems to keep his focus on his recovery and family.
Jason's last day of work was October 30, 2015. He doesn't know when he will return to work or if he will even be able to continue his career as an electrician. Because he will never walk the same and will always live with pain.  Jason has no insurance, the hospital has gotten it down to wear he will only pay 35%, but that  will still be in the  ten's of thousands of dollars which is a low estimate of what it will actually be, which is overwhelming  when you have no income. The home health care is $400.00 daily and thats not counting  the prescriptions and medical supplies that he has to have daily which is having to be paid by himself . He also like the rest of us, has a car payment and insurance to pay (he won't be driving any time soon). the bank and the insurance company don't care about that, along with all his other household bills and living expenses.
Jason has had an extreme amount of moral support coming in from friends and family from all over the country so we are hoping that that support will continue through this gofundme page.  If anyone reading this could just imagine the enormous burden this is putting on him and his family can try and reach deep into your hearts and help in any way you can, any little bit helps him not just financially but emotionally by showing people care enough about him to help him fight this tremendous life changing experiance.
Even if you dont know Jason  let me just tell you as his mother his heart is as big as anyone I know. He has/would helped friends, family and people he has never meet without thinking twice about it. Thats just who he is and believe me anyone that can help will be personally thanked by Jason and he will make sure that you know how much anything you do for him changes his life.  So please if you can help my son please find it in your heart to do so.
Thank you, even if you don't donate but for reading his story and if you can please share his story with any and everybody that you can.  Lets help Jason try and live a life that we all too much take for granted.

Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart.
