Attention all former band members of the world. Remember when you were in band and had the opportunity to travel with your band and do things that otherwise would have passed you by. I nearly happened to me as a child, but for the grace of God and people in my community would help me and many others in my small town high band.
The trip wasn't to see The Macy's parade or Disneyland, but it made a difference to we kids of Hattiesburg, MS when we traveled to Florida. The trip took all but a few hours, but it may as well been traveling to the moon, becuase many of us had never seen The Gulf of Mexico, although we lived just 65 miles north of it.
Times are different, but people and especially kids are the same. I needed to see something different to make a difference. I later became a military person and band director who has done lots of travel. For 25 years, I have bought that experience to my students as we have had the opportunity to travel and perform all over the country. All but the last few years have been done without asking for this type of help from the public, but as I stated, things are different and kids are having to miss out on the experiences that many of us have had.
My biggest concern is helping as many kids as possible experience the wonders of travel. We need you to help us keep this experience going with our band students. If you would stop right now and donate as little as $25 or more, and be just one of 500 people in this great nation of ours who know what I am talking about, then we will meet our goal of helping the final 15 students in our band make the trip of a lifetime, a trip to our 50th state of Hawaii.
Don't say "No" to these kids. They have really worked hard for the chance to open their eyes to a new world of living and learning.
