In 2018, Amy was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) which causes inflammation and scarring in the lungs and leads to difficulty breathing. In late February 2022, it was determined Amy was in need of a double lung transplant in the very near future. On March 7, she was unexpectedly admitted to the ICU due to the severity of her condition and underwent three surgeries in just ten days—a feeding tube
placement, and a tracheotomy, and was placed on life support while being added to the organ transplant list. On March 31, at just 38 years old, Amy underwent a successful double lung transplant; however, the battle is not over yet, and she needs your help! After months in the hospital and weeks at Shirley Ryan Rehabilitation Center, Amy returned home to her husband, CPD officer Bob, and their two boys, Connor (12) and Kyle (10), on June 15.
Shortly after her return home, Amy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma, which spread into her trachea airways, on June 22. Amy started her first round of chemotherapy on July 5.
Amy White, a mom and wife, is the kind of person people want to be around—she is compassionate, fun-loving, and cares more about everyone around her than she does herself. Amy was always on the go and never seemed to mind. Between going to Connor’s baseball games and building Lego sets with Kyle, Amy somehow still hosted the best parties, fully decked out with themed decorations and clever party ideas. When she and her CPD officer husband, Bob, are not spending time with their kids or extended family, they loved attending concerts, enjoying date nights, and an occasional quick weekend getaway.
The road to full recovery will be a long one. Amy continues to need extensive care and
continued physical therapy. It is also unlikely she will return to work any time soon, if ever.
We are now asking for your help to ease the financial burden brought on by the surgeries, extended hospital stay, expensive treatments, and medications she will be on for the remainder of her life. Your kindness and donations will help ensure Amy continues to get the treatment she needs.
