My name is Jackie and newly married to Will. The day following our Wedding Celebration his eyes and skin turned yellow, but he wouldn't see a doctor until Wednesday..immediately referred to Alvor..emergency MRI. Then Friday urgent CT scan. On Saturday, we received a call from the Consultant saying Will had to have an emergency operation and must go to Gambelas Hospital in Faro on Sunday.

 

Will had a cancerous tumour on his Pancreas which is was also blocking his bile duct..hence turning Yellow! The emergency op (we were told would take between 8-10hours) had to be done quickly because the Consultant was concerned the bile will also affect his Liver. We were also told that Will would be in hospital for 9 nights (3 in intensive care). Approx. 2 weeks after leaving hospital he will start Chemo.
What has happened so far..

Will was in surgery for 11 hours then taken to ICU. A little while later, Will complained of chest pains, then had a seizure, resulting in having extensive internal bleeding and was rushed back into surgery for another 2hrs. He has had numerous blood transfusions and CT scans since his surgery.  Will is expected to be in ICU for a minimum of 5 days, before going into a normal room.

If you haven't got Private Health Care, please get it. Will doesn't, and so far, the cost is 29,000€..and rising.
