Hello everybody,
My name is Julia, and I’m so excited to be volunteering, teaching, and learning with Lessons in Conservation (LiC) this February in the Warm Heart of Africa, Malawi. I’m deeply honored to have been gifted a Malawian name, Chikondi, meaning “love” in Chichewa. This name is given with the hope that love will be carried within and shared freely with others.
What is LiC?
LiC is a non-profit youth led organization dedicated to educating young students in underprivileged communities across Africa about their natural surroundings and the importance of conservation. It strives to give children the opportunity to visit and learn about the incredible landscapes and wildlife Africa has to offer, while learning to protect them.
“Unless we are willing to encourage our children to reconnect with and appreciate the natural world, we can’t expect them to help protect and care for it” - David Suzuki
Through practical and interactive lessons, LiC aims to educate children on the wildlife, environments and conservation issues we are facing. The children are taken on excursions to some of the most beautiful national parks which helps them form real connections and grow a love for wildlife. For those who show a deep passion, LiC aims to provide bursaries to help these learners train as game rangers, environmental educators, and other vital roles in conservation which ultimately contributes to a sustainable feedback loop and a cycle of education, love and awareness that can continue for generations.
What can you do?
Passion drives change, but funding makes it possible. Every donation goes directly to LiC to fund conservation lessons, wildlife excursions, and assists funding bursaries. These experiences open doors for children who may otherwise never get the chance to see and learn about, and from, the incredible wildlife and nature around them.
If you would like to a part of this change, please consider making a donation, no matter the size. Every and any donation, big or small, makes a real impact and helps expand the reach of this organisation. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser far and wide would mean the world to me!
