Terrell Schexnayder -Med'l/Recovery

What started off as a normal work day for John and Terrell yesterday was anything but!  Terrell nearly lost his leg, if not his life, but God and John  had a different plan.

As most of you know, John is a contractor and it was just a normal day on a jobsite in Tchefuncta Country Club in Covington.  He and the other subs were working, just doing their thing.  John was outside and he heard a loud scream coming from inside.  John took off running to find Terrell inside yelling in agony with a circular saw lodged in his left inner thigh!

Without hesitation John ran to Terrell, used his pocket knife to cut-away Terrell’s clothing and then removed the saw from Terrell’s thigh, which had reached the bone.  There was so much blood.  John couldn’t stop the bleeding.  Terrell was losing consciousness.  John ripped the shirt off of another guy and grabbed a scrap piece of wood to make a tourniquet.  In the midst of all of this and trying to stabilize the bleeding, he called 911 for help.  The firemen and paramedics arrived and took over.  Terrell was rushed to the hospital.  John rode with him in the ambulance and wanted to contact Terrell’s wife, Alisha.  However, John did not know Alisha’s number, but miraculously; one of the paramedics who arrived on the scene knew Terrell and was able to get her number to John.

At the hospital, Terrell was rushed into surgery.  John waited with Alisha and their daughter and soon Terrell’s church family and pastor showed up to offer prayer and support.

The surgery was a success, but Terrell has a LONG recovery ahead of him. Two main arteries and three muscles were severed.    The surgeon was able to use an artery from the lower part of Terrell’s leg and graph it into his inner thigh.

The nurse and doctor told John that his quick action and tourniquet saved Terrell’s life.

As always, everything is in God’s hands.  God knew who needed to be where yesterday.  John with his military experience knew what to do in the life-threatening situation.  The paramedic knew how to reach Alisha. and if that wasn’t enough, the cardiovascular surgeon and his team were not scheduled to be on the Northshore yesterday, but he was and Terrell did not have to be airlifted to the Southshore!  If that would have been necessary, Terrell’s leg would likely have been amputated.

While Terrell’s wife and 3 children are so thankful to God and his grace, the surgery team, the paramedics, and that John was on the scene, this will not be an easy journey for them.  Alisha is in school and does not work; Terrell is the sole-financial provider for his family and they do not have health insurance.  Besides the medical bills that will be coming, he will now face weeks, if not months of recovery and rehabilitation that will prevent him from working.  As of today, Terrell is still in ICU.

For these reasons, John and I decided to start a gofundme account for Terrell and his family.  If you can help this family in any financial way, I know that the Schexnayder family will be most appreciative.   Please join us in praying for Terrell and his family.  God Bless.
