Who are we and what is Trek Shorts? We are a group producing Star Trek inspired short films since 2021. We’re lucky to have a very talented cast & crew who are genuinely passionate about the storyies we get to tell, from across the Star Trek eras.

What has happened?

We’ve had a critical hard drive failure that has lead to 20 Terabyte of footage in need of saving. A 20 Terabyte hard drive that was entirely full of many of our largest films.

Trek Shorts shoots with 2 Black Magic cinema cameras for an average of 1.3 Terabyte or 1300 Gigabits of video footage per filming day.

As such, given our 4 years of shooting we’ve shot a huge amount of footage and one of our 20 Terabyte failing is a huge issue, with films such as the Doomsday and V’ger footage being entirely on that damaged drive.

We need to purchase a new 20 Terabyte hard drive ASAP to move the data and ensure its safe. This incident has taught us all a lesson...backups.

Currently we do not have ANY backups for any films because, with 100+ Terabytes of raw footage to date, we simply don’t have budget to get the needed space. 20 Terabyte hard drives are currently £374 / $440 on Amazon so, even a single drive is a big investment and we need many to actually back up all this crucial footage.

We are looking to raise funds to purchase 1 replacement hard drive and 5 more to be able to properly organise (Which we have never had the space to do) and back up the many films created over the last few years. Announced and unannounced projects.

Beyond that we have various pieces of hardware which need replacing, from LED studio lights, specialist camera power supplies, cables etc. It all adds up quick as things wear down from years of use.

If we are lucky to go beyond that, we have a few ideas for uniform enhancements we would love to do, but are currently outside our budget. These would be instantly notable on screen and we know the fans love our attention to quality costuming.

Trek Shorts has delivered films for the community time and again, with our latest film releasing only a few days ago and already reaching 10,000 views and glowing reviews. That’s 31 Star Trek fan films released since 2021!

We have so many more films shot or in need of further filming AND more stories we want to tell.
