Richard, 57, and his wife of 30 years, Vicki (56) have two beautiful children, Katie 23 and David 27. They have lived in Guelph for 30 years. Richard is a dedicated father to his children and a devoted, loving husband. His family and extended family are devastated by this turn of events.
On October 15, Richard was hospitalized suddenly at Toronto Western Hospital and two days later was diagnosed with two aggressive, malignant brain tumours. He is undergoing neurosurgery on October 25th at the Toronto Western Hospital. He has a long road ahead of him as he undergoes treatment in Toronto. Richard and his family live in Guelph and will have to find temporary housing in Toronto during Richard’s treatment. Richard and Vicki are both self-employed and will have to step away from their businesses for an extended and unknown period of time with very little income coming into the household to cover medications, homecare, nursing care, and allied healthcare services that are not covered by OHIP as well as the cost of accommodations in Toronto over the coming months of treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Richard has dedicated his professional career as a hydrogeologist and environmental consultant to making sure people did not get cancer from their soil or groundwater. He has continued that quest in the community of Berford Lake South Bruce Peninsula where his family have their cottage by speaking out about the potential threats to the safe drinking water of the community by a proposed Fish Farm in the area. Now, he faces a long battle against a disease he worked for 30+ years to protect others from.
Please consider helping the Sydor family in their time of need.
