DSA Southern Caucus Convention

Organizing looks different everywhere. While national-level organizing can be useful in certain capacities, it is more to the direct benefit of local chapters to have the opportunity to meet and develop their own strategies.

Both today and historically, the South is viewed as the home of people who are white, conservative, male, and racist. While there are conservatives and fascists in the South, there are also people of color, women, LGBTQ+ folks, and a radical working class. It is where human rights organizing have taken place. It is the home of thousands of socialists. Organizing in the South, however, can be quite difficult, as much of the area is quite rural - leaving many comrades without access to a chapter or the bodies to start one. While these represent unique and significant challenges, organizing in the South is an essential part of our growing movement.

To that end, the Southern Caucus of the Democratic Socialists of America exists to help improve communication and coordination between DSA chapters in the South. We seek to provide a space for southern comrades to network, assist people in starting their chapters, share resources, coordinate actions, and draft policy recommendations for the DSA at the national level in order to ensure the South is properly cared for.

To facilitate these goal, the Southern Caucus is planning a regional convention. Doing so will allow us to meet face-to-face and build stronger bonds between our members and their chapters, which is fundamental for the coordination that will improve our organizing abilities in the South. To build this solidarity with each other, we need a little assistance. Unfortunately, we have yet to vanquish capitalism, and there are therefore costs associated with our convention, such as renting a large space, reducing the cost of housing, covering expenses for comrades who cannot afford it, providing food, and buying general supplies.

Any help you can provide would mean the world to us and would help organizing in the South. Together, we can all work towards a better future for not only the South, but the entire world.
