With heavy hearts, the Netek family is reaching out to you with a heartfelt request for your support and prayers.
Don Netek, devoted husband to Judy, loving father of four, and an extraordinary grandfather to two, has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Multiple Myeloma is an incurable cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow. It causes extensive damage to bones, weakens the immune system and kidneys, and lowers blood cell counts.
Don’s battle with this aggressive cancer has required a rigorous treatment plan, including daily cancer medications, weekly infusions, dental procedures, and the need for an Autologous Stem Cell Transplant. This transplant involves harvesting his own stem cells and reinfusing them after a high dose of chemotherapy that will destroy both the cancerous cells and healthy blood cells. The goal is to put Don into remission, but even after remission, he will need ongoing maintenance treatments to stay in that state.
Originally, the transplant was scheduled for September 2024, following four months of treatment. However, due to insurance complications, the transplant has been delayed until January 2025. This means Don has to endure prolonged treatments and medical challenges far beyond what was initially planned.
Since his diagnosis six months ago, Don has faced the physical toll of cancer and treatment side effects, as well as the emotional and financial strain that comes with it. He has lost work time and is facing mounting out-of-pocket costs, including high deductibles, co-pays, and other expenses stemming from insurance delays.
There are no hospitals in Corpus Christi, where Don and Judy live, that can perform the stem cell transplant. As a result, they will need to travel to San Antonio for the procedure and remain there for four to six weeks until Don is well enough to return home. After that, he’ll need to stay in isolation for an additional two months as his bone marrow regenerates. We are praying that this procedure will bring Don into remission, where he can hopefully remain with ongoing treatment.
The entire transplant process will take three to four months, during which Don will be unable to work. As a self-employed individual, when Don doesn’t work, he can’t support his family. The financial strain during this time will be overwhelming as they manage both ongoing living expenses and medical bills.
This is why we are asking for your support. Any financial assistance you can provide would mean the world to Don and Judy as they navigate this incredibly challenging time. They deserve far better than what they are going through and anyone who knows them would agree. We also ask that you lift them up in prayer as they both seek His direction, comfort, and peace during this wildly difficult time.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your generosity and your continued love and support for the Netek family
With love and gratitude,
