Hi my name is Jonathan Nguyen,
I'm raising funds for one of our locals, Senicia Burke. She was struck by a hit and run drunk driver this past Sunday evening, January 21st, on Newport Blvd while walking home.
The driver was speeding, striking her while she was in the crosswalk right next to her apartment. The impact hit her so hard that it catapulted her body across the intersection. The driver had no remorse and never even stopped to see if she was alive after striking the single mom of 3. The only time she paused was when her impact launched her body onto the hood of the car, smashing into his windshield. Right before the driver floored the car evading the scene.
Senicia Burke was rushed to Orange County Medical Center, Santa Ana, in critical condition. The doctor's did a miracle surgery and was able to save her life. She is still in the hospital with a broken leg, and a major fracture in her cheek from the cars impact. Her journey to recovery is going to be a long one, and we cross our fingers and pray that she will eventually make a full recovery.
This has been a tough two years for Senicia just a little over a year ago her apartment burt down due to an electrical fire losing everything she has ever owned. She was barely just getting back on her feet. Now this..
Sometimes, we go through a rough patch, and we just need a helping hand. Please reach into your hearts and donate what you can. Anything will help Senicia and her family out tremendously.
UPDATE: Thank you to the Newport PD and Detectives who were involved in this investigation. They caught the "Girl" who was driving the vehicle and fled the scene. Her car is currently impounded pending investigation and she will be taken into custody this week. I hope they throw the book at her since she left Senicias limp body in the middle of the road to die. Luckily the owner of 711 saw and ran out to get the paramedics.
As for Senicia she is still in the hospital recovery. Despite the accident she is in great spirits but the pain is still brutal. The hospital is currently allowing visitors.
The funds are to help her and her family out for medical expenses and the long recovery.
