Drumming and music have been my life, joy, and sustenance since I was 15 years old. Growing up, I was always the friend saying no to fun activities like skateboarding and jumping on ramps with your bicycle because of my commitment and discipline to the instrument (my friends would often show up with broken limbs, and I couldn't imagine this happening to me and delaying my practices and progress in drumming).
I managed to keep my body safe and healthy throughout my life, and music became one of the biggest blessings rooted deep in my spiritual core. It opened up my whole personal universe, allowed me to see the world, and meet some of the most wonderful people I could imagine. Drums became an extremely powerful healing tool. One concert at a time, I started seeing that I could impact my community and friends in a positive way, bringing light and love to anyone that was willing to share the magic of the soundscapes that were being created.
As part of my commitment to Mother Earth and trying to stay physically active, I began riding a bike between my house and my studio, a beautiful bike path along the San Diego Creek in Orange County, CA. Every time I rode the 30-mile roundtrip section, I felt so thankful and lucky to share the space with the beautiful wildlife and community, and for over 3 years, I never had an incident.
On the evening of April 25th, 2025, due to some unexpected debris on the bike path, I lost control of my bike and landed on my right knee at high speed on the hard pavement. Thankfully, I always wear a helmet, and this probably saved my life, but I ended up with a fracture on the right tibial plateau (in plain English, I fractured my right knee), which will require me to stop all activities involving my leg for about 4 to 6 weeks. First time I've ever broken something at 41 years old (I guess there's a first time for everything).
Unfortunately, I had to postpone all my upcoming session recording projects (this is how I make most of my income), live shows, and lessons until early June 2025. Thankfully, most of my initial medical expenses were covered by my insurance, but as we move forward in the process, it looks like the orthopedic care and physical therapy I will need to recover will have to come out of my pocket. In addition, not being able to use my leg (or walk, drive, etc.) is keeping me from generating my usual income so I can cover my basic living expenses. I have never been in a situation like this before, and I'm trying to stay optimistic, but with bills starting to pile up and the world moving faster than I can catch up with, I find myself in a place where I humbly need to ask for help. Thank you and God bless.
