On June 26th Dru was experiencing intense headaches. It was beginning to effect his eye sight. They continued to get worse before he decided to go to the eye doctor. Dr Stacey Jones performed the usual eye tests and his eye sight was fine. She then decided to do a light reflex test. She was able to determine that something was wrong in the back of the brain. She ordered an emergency MRI. On Friday July 1st at 7:30 am Dru had his MRI, Dr Jones had preliminary results by 9am and called KU MEDICAL CENTER. Dr Jones called Dru and informed him that there was a golf ball sized mass in the back of his brain. His eye sight was fine but the mass was on his optical and temporal lobe, which was effecting how his brain was processing sight and speech. He was told to head for KU MED immediately, they were waiting for him to arrive. As the day went on Dru's headaches became crippling. Due to the 4th of July weekend, they scheduled the tumor resection for the following Tuesday, when the best surgical team would be available.
Dru went in for surgery at 2pm on July 5th. The surgery went as planned. The surgeon Dr Chamoun was confident he got the whole tumor. We were warned before surgery that Dru could wake up with speech and vision deficits, these would hopefully be temporary as the brain swells after surgery. To our relief Dru came out of anesthesia with plenty of jokes. He had an MRI at 2am July 6th, this confirmed that his tumor was gone. We are still awaiting the final pathology. So now the journey begins on finding the right treatment.
Dru is ready to fight to be with his wife Jenna and 6 young children.
Many have asked how they can help support Dru and we decided to open a go fund me account to allow people who want to help him and his family. All donations made on this site will go directly to Dru and his family. No contribution is too small, any amount is greatly appreciated.
As some of you may not know, Dru has been the sole provider for his wife and 6 small children and resides in Gorham, KS. He has recently returned home and is already setting up appointments to tackle this battle. Dru is a super hero- and is going the extra mile in changing his diet and doing everything possible to soar and win this battle above and beyond what the drs have recommended. Dru is a District Manager at Cohran Chemical and is very involved in his community- serving on the city council and the Gorham Development Community Association, and is a coach for all the kids baseball teams.
We are hoping to initially raise upwards of $50,000 to help ease the burden of this medical expenses, traveling expenses, and everyday living expenses that are adding up.
A Ice Cream Social and Bake Sale will take place in Milberger, KS at United Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Sunday July 31st from 5:00-8:00pm. A Dru Miller Medical Fund has also been set up at Southwind Bank in Russell and a meeting will be held to brainstorm on additional fundraising efforts and ideas on Sunday July 17th at the Gorham Senior Center at 6 pm. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
"As many of you are aware I had brain surgery last week and face a lot of unknowns and potential challenges that God will guide me through. I am just wanting to say how humbled I am at the outpouring of prayers and support that has rapidly come my way. I ask for your continued prayers, especially for my children and wife. Please know that I am praying for each and every one of you and ask God to bless you for your kindness." -words from Dru
