About Us
Hello, my name is Lauren. In 2018 my husband was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. James and I have been married for 16 years and have two beautiful children, Juniper (12) and Remy (3). He is a local window cleaner in the Malvern area.
James was first diagnosed in January 2018 with Fibrolamellar HCC. It is a very rare form of cancer affecting young adults who are otherwise fit and healthy. James underwent major surgery in March of that year and again in 2021 after a reoccurrence, again on the liver. In 2023 it was discovered that the cancer has spread to an area on James' lungs and had surgery again to remove it.
In July 2025 James' routine scan showed the cancer had returned on his lungs. There are at least 5 growths and therefore at this stage surgery is currently not an option.
This type of cancer differs from a common liver cancer and cannot be treated as such, therefore no standard of care currently exists for Fibrolamellar HCC, consequently there remains a pressing need to identify proven, effective systemic therapies for the cancer.
Clinical Trial in Germany
Researchers in Germany are looking into the viability of using a peptide immunisation to give a patient's immune system the ability to identify and destroy 'foreign' FLC cells. This immunisation is being manufactured at a University Hospital in Tübingen, Germany. Although the hospital will fund the trial, we will have to cover the cost of travel and accommodation. This will be a challenge as James is not well enough to work full time, as well as needing time to travel and receive treatment. I myself work part time as well as looking after our young family. This clinical trial will require James making 22 visits over 18 months, incurring an overall cost of up to £15,000.
We are grateful to anyone that can help in any way possible! Any donations will make a huge difference, and if donating isn't possible you can help by sharing our story!
