The DRP: Felege Elderly Development Association

The Distant Relatives Project (DRP) is committed to the development of underserved communities around the world by creating opportunities and access to resources. We do this through a series of community outreach and engagement. Our core pillars of concentration include Education, Homelessness and Healthcare!

Felege Elderly Development Association (FEDA), located in Nazret, Ethiopia, is a shelter and nursery home for the elderly and HIV orphans. FEDA is not only home to over 60 senior residents and 15 HIV orphans but a provider to over 240 families in the surrounding community!

In September 2019, the DRP performed a facility optimization project on the shelter, purchasing and installing a plumbing system, two showers, two toilets, two sinks, a 4-range stove and washer and dryer units. The DRP also donated over 20,000 medical, cleaning and school supplies, including adult diapers, exam and heavy-duty surgical gloves, bed pads, blood pressure monitors, compression socks, wound care kits, personal and feminine cleansing wipes, book-bags and much more.

After committing to a long-term partnership with FEDA, the DRP family was deeply saddened when our annual trip to the facility was canceled for the past two years due to the global coronavirus outbreak. We're now planning our return trip and need your help in raising $20,000 to purchase and donate beds for the residents and the medical, cleaning and school supplies necessary for FEDA to continue decreasing homelessness, improving healthcare and making education a right for all!
