DESPITE OUR CARNIVAL IN ORLANDO BEING CANCELLED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS, WE ARE STILL DETERMINED TO COMPLETE THIS CHALLENGE. GET BEHIND AND SUPPORT THE GIRLS.
During April 2020, a group of Sunshine Coast girls will travel to Orlando, Florida to compete in the Tropical 7's rugby tournament in the U18's Elite Division. To help raise funds for the trip, we will be conducting a "Dropkicking Our Way To Orlando Challenge" in March. As a team, we will convert 9,130 successful drop kick conversions over the course of six hours; the distance in miles from Nambour to Orlando. That's 1,521 conversions an hour or 25 conversions every minute. Every donation of $10 will earn a ticket in the Sunshine Coast Fever Mega Prizedraw which features some terrific prizes. It will be challenging for the team however we are committed to completing this task and showing what a group of young girls can do in Rugby when they put their mind, body and heart into something they love. The Sunshine Coast boasts some of the strongest club and school-based girls rugby competitions in Queensland however touring opportunities for these girls are non-existent and often only available for their male counterparts. Any girls wishing to tour with their Rugby are required to go to Brisbane or the Gold Coast to do so. Therefore, the Sunshine Coast Fever Girls Sevens Program has been created which will allow local girls an opportunity to travel overseas and play the game they love at an elite level. The program features girls from Caloundra to Gympie and every aspect of this tour is about empowering young women through Rugby. The players have decided upon the name, designed our kit and will undergo the some of the best training and preparation on offer to ensure they are competitive at this prestigious tournament. There is no doubt that these girls will be fantastic ambassadors for Rugby and for the Sunshine Coast region.
