Imagine being 8 years old reunited with your friends an ordinary day in the green rice fields of Cambodia. Curiosity draws the group to a glistening object in the mud and they start to play with it like kids always do, and should. Then black. It just went black!
When you wake up you are a survivor of a landmine explosion that claimed not only your left leg but also the lives of your three closest friends.
This is the story of our friend Visay.
With no prior rehabilitation and no possibility to get a functional prosthetic leg in Cambodia. Visay spent the next 24 years of his life learning to balance his movements on a single crutch.
Visay is now ready to give up the crutch and exploring the possibilities of getting a modern prosthetic leg.
In collaboration with Scandinavian Orthopaedic Laboratory in Thailand (SOL) Visay’s dreams are becoming reality!
Next month Visay will be fitted with a test leg that SOL will lend him for free. The total cost for his final prosthetic leg is $ 7,700 USD / 74 400 SEK (updated 1 March)
As friends of Visay we are inspired by his determination and are coming together to support his journey.
It is our hope that you will help contribute to his journey beyond the crutch.
Please help Visay to get this leg!
