(Droopy) Derek Hurst

A Dead Head from the word go, Derek was one of the few hard-core Tourheads any of us knew from the Bay Area. The only thing Derek loved as much as Jerry and the Grateful Dead were the Oakland A's. Wait- that's not entirely true; he loved his partner, Dana Lotus and her kids with all his heart. And what a huge heart he had.

If you ever went to Dead shows (on either coast), it's likely you saw Derek in the hallways. He used to dance like Snuffleuffagous, head tilted down, one arm up against his ear and waving out in front of him.

Droopy had a smile that engulfed his whole face. The world is just a little less bright and shiny without Derek in it. And we miss him dearly.

He needs a grave marker and we need your help to put one up for him. His burial was paid for by a "friend".

Derek is buried at Gan Shalom (Garden of Peace) Jewish Cemetary in Briones, California.
