Championing UK Talent: Back Mekanix at VEX Worlds

Hello everyone! We are Team “Mekanix”, a Year 9 VEX Robotics team representing Watford Boys Grammar School.

We are honoured to share that we will be representing the UK at the prestigious VEX Robotics World Championships 2024 in Dallas, Texas. Out of numerous teams, we are 1 of only 11 selected to represent the UK on the global stage.

VEX Robotics involves creating, programming and building a robot (under strict guidelines), which then competes in several teamwork challenges, as an alliance, in 60-second matches, working collaboratively to score points. Tournaments are held at local, regional and national levels, culminating with the best teams competing at the World Championships.

Our team is made up of Aaron Patel (Driver & Builder); Angad Walia (Crerative Designer); Daniyal Nadeem (CAD Designer & Driver); Dhruv Datt (Programmer); Izyan: (Builder); and Mustafa Hussain (Programmer). The key to our success has been strong collaboration, originality and our overall team commitment - putting in those extra hours over lunchtimes, after school and at weekends.

Our journey began with intense competitions at regional events. Our 1st event was a steep learning curve! During the 2nd event, our alliance’s robot broke down mid-match, which meant we, as their alliance partner, were also unable to progress further. In our 3rd and final event, we applied all our learnings and as a result, managed to achieve first place in that regional round, securing our team's place in the UK Nationals.

During the UK National Competition, we fought our way to the top of the table on day one, and we stayed in contention all the way achieving 2nd place overall after day two - winning our place at the VEX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!
