Driving River Into Battle Against Epilepsy

River Maddux - Help us drive River in his fight against epilepsy! River’s seizures are changing and worsening, we’re having vehicle glitches, we’ve moved homes, had to switch up doctors and therapies and schools - it’s been a lot!

I’m here because we really need your help. With all of these changes on top of River’s ever-changing needs, we need to be done with our car and get something with more space and accessibility for our needs. I got my degree in Criminal Justice what seems like forever ago but am unable to work more than a few hours a week helping others with administrative work due to River’s daily needs, appointments, and therapies so I’m not much help when it comes to bills and car payments.

One of the main reasons we moved was River’s neurologist said we basically have a few years left with him and there’s not much else we can do to treat his medicine resistant and catastrophic Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome/Infantile Spasms. With River’s brain malformation and delays, the neurologist didn’t have much hope for possible treatments.

River needs a different car seat that will allow us to get him into the car more easily and we need a vehicle with more space to fit his equipment.

We would be so honored if you decided to help us out with this, we’ve now reached the point of necessity and not just dreaming. From doctor appointments to typical family outings, it’s feeling like too much. Too much money, too many car issues, not fitting well, and the work and puzzle it is to try and fit his equipment - let alone if we have other stuff or people in the car.

As medical parents we often opt not to vent about or show the frustrations of caregiving as not to make it sound like our children are burdens. While that of course is not true, the inaccessibility of our world is glaringly obvious. Basic things like vehicles and seats and equipment make the world more accessible and a better place for kids like River!
