This is really a hard thing to ask for help with for me. But it has become a crushing need to ask. I am reaching out because my family is facing a transportation challenge that is making it difficult for us to care for ourselves and our loved ones. I am disabled, and my husband and I are a one-income family. We share our only car, but about 2 years ago, I became the sole caregiver for my stepdad, who lives an hour away. This has added another layer of responsibility to my life, as I try to balance my own doctor appointments, physical therapy, and other necessary appointments with my stepdad’s growing appointments and needs.
Having just one car is no longer enough for us. Every week, I have to cram multiple appointments into one or two days a week, which is exhausting for both me and my stepdad. It’s become painfully clear that having a second car would make a world of difference. With another vehicle, I could spread out our appointments, making things less stressful and allowing both of us to get the care we need without so much strain. For those curious why I do not use public transit let me say that I wish I could. Where we live in our part of town there is no public transportation so that is not an option for even just my own appointments. Public transportation would be near impossible for my stepdad's appointments.
I also want to be able to help others in my community when I am able, but without transportation, I am very limited in what I can do to help others. I have always been active in my communities and miss being able to do more these last few years with just one car. So, having another car will not just help my family, but I will also use it to be of service in my communities more.
I’m reaching out to my community with a heartfelt request for support. Any help you can give would mean the world to us as we navigate this challenging time. Your generosity will help us regain some balance and ensure that both my stepdad and I can get to our appointments safely and on time. Thank you so much for considering helping us.
Note: the cover model for the fundraiser is our pup Ginger who loves to ride in the car with us!
