Driving for Emily
Donation protected
‘Driving for Emily’ is our take on ‘The Rust Bucket Rally’, which was started by a group of friends who wanted to raise money for charity in 2014. The idea was to buy a car for less than £500 and then drive across Europe over a long weekend.
‘Driving for Emily’ is to raise funds for a very special and incredibly brave young lady. Emily, at 18, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma grade IV brain cancer in May 2023. This cancer is extremely aggressive and fast-growing, and Emily will be monitored constantly for the rest of her life.
What makes Emily’s diagnosis even more heartbreaking is that at 9 years old, Emily was diagnosed with T-cell leukemia and underwent two and half years of intense treatment. To fight it once in her short life is hard enough, but to get another form of cancer is just devastating.
Emily’s family and friends have been fundraising since her diagnosis last year to do everything they can to keep Emily strong during her medical treatment. This includes consultations with private doctors and specialists, as well as additional supplements, which come at an extremely high cost - the total for February was £700!
To support this fundraising effort, we have purchased a 19-year-old Mazda MX-5 for £300 and, after a little TLC, have set ourselves the challenge driving 1000 miles from Oxford to Italy and all the way back again in five days. It’s going to be one serious challenge and a tight squeeze!
We’d love to raise as much as possible and would appreciate any donation you can make. It really will make a positive difference to Emily and her ongoing treatment.
Thank you!
John & Kenny
