Driving food justice in southwest Georgia
If you want to bring fresh produce, better heath, and food justice to the people of rural southwest Georgia, help A Better Way Grocers convert a school bus into a mobile grocery store. Donate today and get it matched by a generous angel!
Southwest Georgia is a food desert. If you want to get groceries at the nearest Walmart using public transportation, it could take you four hours round trip. Many people turn to local convenience stores for food, and the health impact is profound. Tiffany says that in her area, preexisting conditions can be predicted by ZIP code.
Committed to providing healthy alternatives, Tiffany and Tommie Terrell currently deliver fresh food in 40-year-old bus that is hard to maintain and needs new steering fluid added every other day. They recently bought a bigger, newer bus (with AC!) and have qualified, reputable mechanics ready to get it in top running condition.
The plan:
Upgrades & Maintenance (estimate) $6,500.00
Grocery Fixtures (fridges, cabinets, shelves, etc.) $5,000.00
Business Licenses & Fees $1,000.00
Insurance (prepaid) $1,000.00
Starting Inventory $4,500.00
Unexpected Expenses $1,000.00
Total Expenses for the New Bus $18,500.00
A generous angel donor will match the first $10,000 in donations, so we only need to raise $10,000!
Let’s get the new bus on the road by late July, bringing fresh produce and food justice to the people of rural southwest Georgia. Make a gift today!
All donations are tax deductible to A Better Way Grocers/HEROS for Success. This project was created in collaboration with SOWEGA Rising and Americans of Conscience Checklist.
