Drive This Forward: A Van For John
Hello friends. Our son-in-law and your friend, John, had his wheelchair-accessible van stolen about a month ago. The Sacramento Police Department has been searching the city and beyond, but no leads have surfaced.
Living with Muscular Dystrophy, confronting ableism and fighting through numerous injuries and sicknesses, John is the most resilient, generous, and kind person we have ever met. He has devoted his life to disability advocacy and helping others. Through his nonprofit, the John Kerr Foundation, John has directly impacted the lives of nearly 40 young adults with disabilities. Helping them go to college and live an independent life like the one he and his wife, our daughter, have built together.
With the lack of accessible cabs and Ubers in Sacramento, John has been completely grounded since the theft of his vehicle. To live his day-to-day life, get to medical appointments, shop, and do his nonprofit's vital work, John must replace his wheelchair-modified van.
Although our daughter and John are both employed, the industry price points for modified vans make it impossible for those who need to purchase a reliable vehicle.
We are starting this GoFundMe to hope that we can all come together and help John get back up and rolling again. Please join us in donating whatever you can so that John can once again have his freedom and continue all his important work!
