Drink Clean Think Green in Marion, Alabama

Hi, our names are Jillian Fields and Nikki Reh.  We are freshman in college and working on a service project to be implemented in the Black Belt of Alabama.  Our goal is to improve the quality of water, and subsequently, environmental efforts and health of students in Marion, Alabama.   
We plan to assess the drinking water at the local high school and obtain a viable, efficient, and reasonably-priced solution.  This will be applied directly to the school and affect the students, teachers, staff, and community members. Not only is dehydration a major problem in lower income classes, it is also crucial to developing students.  According to the CDC, “adequate hydration may improve cognitive function among children and adolescents, which is important for learning."  As of right now, the fountains in the school are not ideal: only 1/4 of the students in a math class at the school reported drinking from the fountains (saying it was "hot" and "nasty").  Less than half of the students in that class have a reusable water bottle to fill.
Your donation will go towards purchasing two new water fountains with filters and a ‘Hydration Station’ for the school in Marion.  The new fountains, plus the reusable water bottles we plan to obtain will cultivate a healthier lifestyle and a more sustainable school.
