Drew’s Medical Mission Fund

In 2011, an urgent care visit sparked months of doctor’s appointments and tests. Drew’s first MRI showed the reason for severe chest pain and numbness in both legs. He had a large tumor and innumerable small tumors compressing his spinal cord.  He then embarked on a journey through a risky surgery that removed the backs of three thoracic vertebrae and left him unable to walk.  A few days later, Drew was diagnosed with anaplastic ependymoma; a rare and aggressive form of spinal cord cancer.  He endured 4 weeks of daily radiation treatments that would change his appearance and deplete his energy, but not his will.

Although his cancer was tough, Drew was tougher.  After a year of physical therapy he was told he may never walk again unassisted.  He defied the odds and got himself out of a wheelchair, off of a walker, and completed his first triathlon. Surgery and radiation had stabilized the cancer growth.

Drew carried on with his life, getting married to the lovely Ana.  However, in April 2014 Drew and Ana received the devastating news that the cancer was growing again.  Prompting a second surgery, this time on his lumbar spine. Though it helped remove a large tumor, others continued to grow. Drew has recently been through three different chemotherapy treatments, waiting for the right mix to start working.

Throughout this whole ordeal Drew has continued to try to work full-time.  He requires frequent MRI scans, many different prescriptions (including holistic medications), hospital visits, and chemotherapy treatments.  Many of these charges are not fully covered by insurance.

Drew and Ana themselves would never ask for your help, they are the type of people that would help others before themselves. I love, support, and believe in Drew and Ana and I know many of you do as well. I have been approached many times by friends asking how to help, and here is how we can do that. Let’s all come together and help ease some of the financial burden they face.

The finances are only one part of the battle Drew faces, but they are a part we can do something about.  Any amount you can donate is appreciated. Don’t forget to leave a personal message for Drew letting him know he has your support. Let’s show Drew and Ana how many people are behind them, holding them up.
