Drew's fight for his life

Donation protected
Drew Manser, my two year old nephew, is currently living everyday with a rare condition, so rare that doctors have been unable to truly diagnose and provide a solution as to how to treat him.  At his 2 year checkup his weight was below the 10th percentile and there was abnormal bulge in his groin area, so what was a checkup for what they thought was a hernia, turned out to be a mass through is abdomen.  On April 17th Drew underwent surgery at Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC) to assess the 'large masses' they identified via CT can.   Surgery identified fatty tissue 30x the size of a normal person encased around his colon, therefore was unable to remove any of it without damage to the colon.  He is fighter, but one that is losing weight and his body is not processing food and nutrition the way it should be due to these fatty tissues.  He has been seen by multiple doctors at Boston Children's Hospital, CCMC and various other doctors throughout the US have been consulted.  As a parent, you can imagine the angst to go through understanding your child has abnormal growths inside their body and there is no solution as to how to treat it.    Drew is scheduled to be admitted this week to CCMC to get a nasogastric tube to feed and fuel his body with nutrition and also have an MRI.  We are grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff that have been providing care for him.   The road ahead is going to be one that involves many doctor's appointments, potential surgeries, stays in the hospital to get the best care possible.  As two working parents of not just Drew but two amazing girls Avery, 8 and Ashlyn, 6 they are all in need of as much support, love and prayers as you can offer but importantly a donation to help the burden of costs that lie ahead.  Caroline Manser, his mom,  is a registered nurse and is fighting everyday to find the best care possible for him.  But that means missing shifts at work and having to take family medical leave, without pay, but the ability to keep their health insurance, which as you can imagine is the most important thing to have right now.  David Manser, Drew's father and my brother, has been balancing working and taking time off to be with Drew at his doctor's appointments, but also be there to support his girls as mom and Drew are away from home.  We all know it takes a village to raise kids, but with sick kids it take an extra special one with big hearts and willingness to support them.  Please, any donation is appreciated and none are too small, to help support the family's medical costs and ability find the best treatment options out there to allow their son to fight for his life.
