Drew's Fight Against CML
Donation protected
Shalom (Hello) Everyone,
Some of you may know that the past several months, our family has been trying to get to the bottom of a few health concerns. What many of you may not know is that we have arrived at the bottom and my beloved, Drew, has been tentatively diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, which is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood. I say “tentatively” because we are still waiting on blood work and a bone marrow biopsy to confirm that the mutation known as the “Philadelphia” Chromosome, occurred. Chronic is the lowest stage of the three stages of the disease, and is indicative in the amount of healthy white blood cells Drew has, with a low number of the “blasted” cells. The Intermediate and especially the Acute stages would have the “blasted” cells taking over and outnumbering the normal. This is very hopeful news. We are thankful to feel that we caught it in its early development, thanks to Hashem (G-d), who orchestrated some of our many plans to fall through and ensure we made time for appointments.
These appointments have steadily gotten more expensive: one Urgent Care visit, an order for an ultrasound, and then for blood work and finally to the Emergency Room, where he was “diagnosed” and finally an appointment with the oncologist this week; and the bills are starting to roll in. As of right now they are at around $7,000. One of the specialized blood tests we need is around $1,000. When the biopsy Doc returns next week, we’ll find out how much that is going to be, however we have been told that is will be $2,000-3,000 itself.
We are very blessed to live in the state of Colorado with so many options available to us. Drew is going to take part in a 2-week treatment at the Eden Valley Institute in Longmont Colorado, beginning April 14th. The cost for that is $4,900 and we are very blessed to have donations already given to us for some of that. What generous loved ones we have!
Treatments are available in 2-week increments quite regularly; additionally, shorter treatment stints that cost $400 for 2 days. Drew will utilize these as necessary and as finances allow us. The great thing is that the 2 weeks include training and empowerment so that much of what he does and learns, we can, and will, be implementing at home.
As believers in Hashem’s Glorious Majesty, we know that nothing is done to us on this earth without His approval, and all is to get our attention, draw us to Him, and help us make decisions to live our life with true Purpose, where treasure is stored up in the Eternal Kingdom. We thank Him for this opportunity to examine ourselves as we face this trial, and to rectify the parts of us as individuals, as lovers, and as parents, that are not cohesive with the Almighty Creator of the World, the Universe, and the Galaxies for all eternity. How great is His Love for us, mere mortals!!
Our bodies are an amazing creation, as well as the natural world, and they can be used in sync to promote health and healing. It’s fascinating and so encouraging to see how we can, b’ezrat Hashem (G-d’s help), take charge of our health, examine our souls, and get both back to a state of purity able to serve the Creator!
“May the Lord strengthen him upon his sick bed; whenever he lies ill You overturn his illness.” (Tehillim-Psalms- 41:4)
“My son, attend to my words; incline your ears to my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes, keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are LIFE to those that find them and HEALTH to ALL their FLESH!” (Mishlei-Proverbs- 4:20-24)
We find peace, His Shalom, in His Word, boundless and eternal, and lean upon His strength to walk accordingly and experience His salvation from all that enslaves and entraps us.
We are so thankful for this opportunity to learn and grow as individuals, as a couple, as parents, and as people in relationship with all others. And, we are so thankful for each of you, who care for us and share in our journey. We appreciate prayers above all, as Hashem controls all, and we believe in His Almighty Creative Word and Will to be done. We appreciate those who journey with us in tangible ways to lighten the financial load and help provide Drew with the treatments he needs in this battle, as well as emotional support and friendship for us here at home in our daily lives.
How blessed we are by our family and friends- our tribe is truly amazing! We appreciate you taking time to care for us and love us by reading this, and please share it as much as you feel led! There is power in numbers!
Love, blessings and shalom to you and yours!
