Drew Farrell’s Spinal Injury Recovery

As you all may know, our dad is an avid outdoor enthusiast with a strong passion for Mountain Biking. Our entire lives, he’s taught us to never be afraid of taking risks and he’s always led by example.

Three weeks ago, he was out on a night ride with his MBC buddies in Gloucester, MA and he took a spill. He was taken out of the woods to O’Maley Middle School where he was was air lifted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston. The following morning, he underwent emergency spinal fusion surgery to place a steel rod in his neck from C2-C7. He broke his neck and suffered considerable nerve damage limiting his limb function, but we are very optimistic about his recovery. He’s the strongest, most stubborn guy we know…and if you know him, I’m sure you can agree!

After a week at Tufts, he was transferred to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston where he has been working hard in PT and OT to regain his limb function. He’s made incredible strides so far, but has a very long road ahead.

He’s been receiving great care thus far, and has won over every nurse, therapist and caretaker who has helped him. He has not only befriended, but has motivated and given hope to everyone he’s come into contact with. To know him, is to love him.

As we’re now three weeks out from his injury, we’ve had some time to calculate the cost of his expenses. These funds will go toward what his insurance doesn’t cover from his current medical expenses at Tufts Hospital, Spaulding Rehab Hospital, and his helicopter/ambulance ride. Once he’s discharged, he will need in-home adaptive equipment and in-home PT equipment. This is going to be a huge adjustment for him and we want to make sure he has everything he needs to make a successful recovery.

Dad wanted to make sure everyone knows how grateful he is, and that any funds that are raised beyond his recovery needs, will be donated to help others.

Our Drewzer is the most genuine, selfless soul with the biggest heart in the world. He’s not only our dad, but our best friend.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this, we feel beyond blessed to have so many good people in our lives!

Love,

Nolan & Kailey
