Cycling Alaska To Argentina - Building A Clinic In Gambia
Donation protected
Hi, i'm Jesse & this year I am embarking on an epic journey cycling from Alaska to Argentina to realise a number of my life dreams - one of them being building a maternity clinic on the north bank of the river Gambia.
The trip will be around 30000 miles & take around 2 years to finish, in which time i'm hoping to raise the money to build the clinic as well as hopefully inspire a lot of people at the same time to live their dreams in life!

Here is the site for more information on the trip;
Who Am I Helping?
The large Village of Aljamdou has a population of 7000 people. The nearest health centers are Albreda clinic which is 15 miles away & the more developed Essau clinic which is 20 miles away.

Transportation is very limited & unaffordable for most villagers so to get medical care they most walk these distances which can be very difficult for a sick person or woman in labour.
Often women in labour have no choice but to take a donkey cart 20 miles to the nearest fully equipped facility which is extremely dangerous for the woman & child with them often not making the perilous journey. A challenge that building a clinic here will completely resolve.

In the rainy season the condition of the roads deteriorate so much that it makes the little transport available impossible, meaning that the local population & women have no access to medical care when it is needed the most, often having to give birth in an unsanitary environment in the village.
There are a number of problems here that we simply don't have in the UK due to an abundance of medical supplies & equipment that is lacking in this area of The Gambia - an example being that a lot of the women end up dying due to bleeding out post birth due to not having suture kits to provide stitching for her post birth.
The target for the fundraiser is £40,000 which will cover the full construction of the clinic & the collection & shipping of a shipping container of medical supplies & equipment to equip the clinic whilst also supporting the Alaska To Argentina trip.

To get things off the ground trip wise - The first £5k raised will go towards the funding of the trip & to purchase camera equipment to document the trip enabling me to raise more funds through telling the story.
The next £10k will be 50% to the clinic with 50% to go towards funding the trip - With this threshold we will be able to finish phase 1 of the clinic which is laying the foundations.
For the final 25K 80% will go towards the clinic & 20% will go towards funding the trip.
With this £20k we will be able to fully complete & equip the clinic ready for it to open & help the local community of Aljamdou & beyond
We have had the land secured in agreement with the ministry of health as well as an MOU (Memorandum Of Understanding) with the ministry of health stating that if we build the clinic they will staff the clinic.
We have started the building project with the villagers coming together to donate a bag of cement from each family in order to build the foundations of the clinic & creating several hundred blocks for the foundation of the clinic.

The villagers have been very busy clearing the land ready for beginning construction on the project with everything ready to go which is where we come in with our fundraising efforts!
The GMF is registered charity within The Gambia, number 2016/C2765.
We are currently engaged in the registration process to become a UK registered charity.

I would be deeply grateful if you were to consider helping me realise my 12 year dream of building the clinic to help the mothers, babies, doctors & nurses of The Gambia.
