Our Dream for Jeron!

Jeron is our sweet curly-haired miracle who struggles with both Autism and Anxiety.  He has overcome so much in his 6 years and we are constantly in awe of his many gifts.

We have worked so hard as a family to provide Jeron with all of the resources and opportunities to continue to make progress in his social skills, anxiety coping skills, intense sensory needs, speech/language deficits, and all other areas that have required extra attention over the past 6 years.

We have felt like we were keeping our heads above water-barely-but still surviving, until this past year.  Jeron began a downward spiral a little bit over a year ago.  School has added an additional source of stress and anxiety for Jeron and as a result, his coping skills and behavior management have regressed significantly.

When Jeron was younger, he was able to help manage his anxiety through the use of sensory tools that we have had everywhere from the car, to the classroom, to our backyard, to our living room...pretty much anyplace that we could create ways for Jeron to be able to independently meet his sensory needs when he was experiencing high periods of anxiety.

The struggle we are facing now is that the equipment we have been able to utilize within our house is no longer effective due to him growing from a tiny toddler to an American Ninja 1st Grader!

As a result, his behaviors have become very unsafe at both home and school as he tries to meet his sensory needs in new ways. Fortunately, Jeron is able to have access to great sensory equipment at school to help with his self-calming.

At home, we are in massive failure mode despite having so many resources already in place.   Currently, we have a home therapist who works with our family a couple of hours a week to help us to learn  how to best meet Jeron's growing needs as a family.  We take Jeron to Horse Therapy weekly. Jeron recieves monthly behavioral therapy from Children's Mercy and sees a Developmental Specialist regularly. We work closely with Jeron's Special Education Team- especially his Occupational Therapist (OT) on ways to help provide Jeron with everything he needs to be successful.

All of these resources have been a God send and we are so blessed to have them available to us; however, it is not enough.  Jeron is drowning and we are desperate to be able to find a way for him to be able to manage his anxiety and sensory needs within our home.

This is the area that we are hoping to find some help.  There are amazing pieces of OT equipment designed for kids with Jeron's specific sensory needs that are designed to grow with him and to be theraputically effective when it comes to assisting him to manage his anxiety and intense sensory needs.  The problem we are struggling with is the cost of this equipment.  It is far beyond what we are able to afford on our own right now.

Asking for help is something that Jeramie and I don't do well.  We work so hard to be able to provide for Jeron and hate thinking that what we are able to provide is not enough.  It is an awful feeling to feel like you are failing your child in an area that should be an "easy" fix.

We like to be the ones offering help to our friends and family who need it because we know how blessed we have been over the years by the support we have recieved from them.  It's tough to be in the position to acknowledging that we can't do it on our own right now.

We are hopeful that with the funds donated through this page, we will be able to purchase some of the following OT equipment and other costly sensory tools recommended by his therapists for Jeron to be able to utilize thoughout our home.  We want our home to become more Jeron friendly in a way that makes him feel safe, calm, and in control.   With Jeron's outside world being so unstable and unpredictable, we want his home to feel like a sanctuary.  This is vital to our family's emotional health as well.  When Jeron is in crisis, we are all in crisis.

We hope you will consider helping us to make this happen for Jeron.

Some examples of the types of equipment we would like to be able to provide for Jeron are:

*Gorilla Gym Kids Deluxe with Indoor Swing, Plastic Rings, Trapeze Bar, Climbing Ladder, and Swinging Rope
Doorway Gym

*Sensory Pea Pod- Compression, snugness, and able to rock
Pea Pod

*Safe Place for when Jeron needs to "hide" and eliminate excessive stimuli
Cozy Castle

* Jeron is frequently seeking out ways to spin! His sit n' spin from his preschool days is not working anymore.
Spin Disc

*Jeron's FAVORITE-A "Hug Machine"
Hug Machine

Anything that we are able to purchase for Jeron will first meet the approval of Jeron's OT and Developmental/Behavioral Therapist.  We only want to purchase items that would be considered therapeutic as opposed to simply "play" equipment.

It's our goal to get our "Jeron Friendly" home started as the weather gets colder and his access to our outside play equipment becomes more limited.

We would all be so grateful in any help that we can get in making our dream for Jeron to come true! Jeron will be creating a special piece of art and a thank you note for everyone who is able to help!

Thank you!
Darcy, Jeramie, Jeslyn, Jaiden, Jaxon, and Jeron
