I want to fund a DREAM CYCLE for Rhonda!
RHONDA DONNA
Our friend and neighbor Rhonda loves to ride bikes, but she has Parkinson’s. Several years ago, Rhonda was a vibrant healthy professional woman when she noticed a new unsteadiness while walking. After many medical tests the diagnosis was made of early onset Parkinson’s disease. Now as Rhonda's disease has progressed, she has trouble walking, speaking, and caring for herself. One of the great pleasures of her life has been riding a bike on the levee trails around Edgerley Island where she can feel free, spend time in nature, and interact with her neighbors. Because of her balance, riding a standard bike alone has become too dangerous, but riding together allows her to reclaim her former joy as well as community connection!
Bicycle riding is the best! We are blessed with this beautiful dead end road and our newly resurfaced ADA compliant crushed stone levees! We have several 3-5 mile loops where we can enjoy the bird sanctuary and all the nature around us. We want everyone to be able to enjoy it! Imagine two recumbent bikes joined together as a side-by-side tandem bike! The design is ideal if one rider is stronger than the other, or if one rider is disabled, like with balance or vision limitations, or someone who needs exercise to heal from an injury. It is also great if you just want to be together and hold hands while riding!
We know someone else who is blind and would love to ride with his family if he had a way. Another friend and neighbor can no longer ride due to impaired balance and would love to join her grandchildren out on the levee on a side-by-side tandem bike.
The tandem bike we want even has a compartment for a canine companion or a picnic lunch. We would love for YOU to take a spin with a friend, neighbor or loved one!

You may have seen our photo in the neighborhood bulletin. We tried another low budget tandem kit, which joined two regular bikes. And while it was wonderful to sit next to each other and chat while riding, and one or both of us could pedal and/or steer, but it was too difficult to get on and off and not quite stable enough to keep our vulnerable friend safe and secure.
This community is already excited to help Rhonda and we hope you will be too! We hope you join us in bringing this amazing community DREAM CYCLE to life and sharing it so we can all enjoy it together, especially Rhonda!
