Our son James was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2024, when he was 7 years old. When James was diagnosed the cancer had already spread in his brain and spine.

Since James' diagnosis (with the help from family and friends) we have raised over £50,000 for brain tumour research and childrens cancer charities. We would now like to do something special for James and Freddie.

We have set up this page for support towards the cost of a new accessible dream garden. James has asked for a red swing, a bug hotel and a raised veg/fruit planter. Freddie has asked for a play area with monkey bars. James is a massive Nottingham Forest fan so no surprise he wants a red swing!

James needs a SEN supportive swing which costs £670 plus the cost of the frame. To enable James to move around the garden safely in his wheelchair or with his frame, we are widening the paths and making the garden all level.

Continuing to spend time with friends and family is really important to James and all of us. Our new dream garden will provide a safe and accessible space for us to do this.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your continued support,

James, Freddie, Katie & Paul

James' journey:-

In 2014 James fought through brain surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He responded well to initial treatment but sadly he relapsed in 2025. He then had to have more chemotherapy, which was inserted daily directly into his head whilst he was awake. As a result of treatment, James suffered a stroke in April 2026.

Some of the side effects James has to deal with are: mobility limitations, partial hearing loss, sight impairment, slower processing speed, memory loss, growth hormone deficiency and extreme fatigue.

James has MRI scans every 3 months to check on disease progression.

James' diagnosis has significantly impacted our lives. James now requires constant care so only one of us is able to work. James loves playing football, which he is now unable to do. James' favourite team, Forest, and his favourite player, Morgan Gibbs-White, have been a great support to James.

We have all had adapt to James needing to spend lots of time in hospital and our family often being apart. Our younger son Freddie (now age 6) has to deal with so much for his young age.

We have made it our mission to continue to raise awareness and fundraise, in the hope that other children and families do not have to go through the unimaginable, heartbraking journey of childhood cancer.
